This morning you will leave for the ancient city of Angkor Thom, last capital of the Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8 m high rampart, forming a perfect square. Enter the city through the South Gate, a monumental stone gate decorated with four immense faces and a three-headed elephant. Past this gate, on each side of the alley, there is a row of 54 giants, gods or demons holding Naga, the sacred serpent.
From there, continue to Bayon Temple, the exact center of Angkor Thom. This 12th-century masterpiece is famous for its 54 face towers representing the 54 provinces of the great Khmer Empire.

Then exploration of the Phimeanakas, which a team of French archaeologists has completely restored after 16 years of work. The Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King are also unmissable for their intricate bas-reliefs. Before lunch, you visit Ta Prohm – one of the most important monuments of Angkor.
Lunch at the local restaurant.
Afternoon stroll to the magnificent Angkor Wat temple. Angkor Wat combines two basics of Khmer temple architecture: the mountain temple side and the gallery temple side. It was designed to represent Mount Meru, the home of the gods in Hindu mythology. Inside the temple, the walls are covered with stone carvings and bas-reliefs depicting Hindu mythology and the wars fought by Suryavarman II during his reign. Angkor Wat is also famous for the Apsara dancers (over 2,000) decorating it. Construction is said to have taken about 30 years of intensive work. Today, Angkor Wat appears on the national flag of Cambodia as a symbol of the soul of the Khmer people..

This morning, visits from Banteay Srei, Located about 18 km from the Angkor Wat Temple. Considered by many to be the jewel of classical Khmer art, this site is not very large and has been wonderfully preserved. The sculptures of its bas-reliefs are certainly the most successful in Angkor. Dating from the end of the 10th century, this Hindu temple is dedicated to Shiva. This quadrangle has entrances on the east and west sides. The three central towers are interesting for more than one reason. They are decorated with male and female deities and beautiful filigree bas-reliefs. On return, excursion to Preah Dak village.
Lunch at the local restaurant.
Departure at Kampong Khleang, located on the northern tip of the lake, about 55 km east of Siem Reap. In the rainy season, the water level rises to within one or two meters of buildings. Kampong Khleang is a community within the floodplain of the lac Tonle Sap, with an economy based on fishing and surrounded by flooded forest. Then, departure by local boat on the canals to the large lake where the people who live there move their houses according to the seasons.

Noticed : The Tonle Sap Lake tour is not recommended during the dry season (February or March to July) as the water level is very low. If the cruise is not feasible, it will be replaced by another tour.
